Low Chair LC03 in flax
25 September – 30 January 2011
Fashion in recycled polyester? A chair made of resin and flax fibre? A solar-powered machine for weaving textiles?
These are just a few of the many objects on show at the reTHINK! exhibition at the Textielmuseum, which showcases sustainable fashion, interior textiles and product design, and tackles issues and dilemmas associated with the development of sustainable products.
A striking exhibit here is the Low Chair LC03, designed for Pastoe by Maarten van Severen, using bio-based composites — replacing glass fibre with renewable materials, flax in this instance. At the end of its working life, the chair can be exploited as biomass, releasing green energy. This environmentally friendly option came into being in partnership with Ecological Textiles, Pastoe and NPSP Composites. It will be on display at the reTHINK! exhibition.
